What are the required qualities of a role model?

A good role model should have a combination of competence and character. It is not enough for someone to be successful or famous; they also need to show discipline, integrity, and a sense of responsibility. For example, in sport, I would admire athletes who train hard, handle pressure well, and still remain humble when they win. Someone like that can inspire people not only to chase success, but also to behave well while doing it. I think role models are especially important for children because young people often copy what they see before they fully understand it. A positive role model can give them a clear example of hard work, resilience, and kindness. At the same time, children should not be encouraged to idolise anyone blindly, because even famous people make mistakes. Parents and teachers need to help children separate a person’s achievements from their personal flaws. There is definitely a difference between famous people today and those in the past. In the past, people usually became famous through talent in areas like sport, music, politics, or film, and their public image was controlled by newspapers and television. Today, people can become famous very quickly through social media, sometimes because they are creative, but sometimes simply because they are controversial or entertaining. In my country, athletes, singers, actors, businesspeople, and online influencers can all become well-known. Celebrities and influencers clearly have a strong impact on young people, so I think they should be more careful about the lifestyles, values, and products they promote.
