Yes, I think everyone should have at least a basic knowledge of history, not because we all need to remember every date or battle, but because history helps us understand why societies are the way they are today. It gives people context for politics, culture, national identity, and even conflicts between countries. If people know nothing about the past, they may repeat old mistakes or believe very simplistic versions of current events. Children can learn history in many ways. Of course, textbooks are useful because they give a clear structure and reliable information, but children often remember history better through museum visits, documentaries, historical films, family stories, and school trips to important sites. Books usually encourage deeper thinking because students have to imagine events and compare sources, while videos can make history more vivid and emotional. However, videos can also oversimplify things, so ideally children should use both. Protecting historic buildings can be quite difficult because they are expensive to repair and they often need specialist materials and skills. In my view, the responsibility should be shared. Governments should create laws and provide funding, local communities should respect and support these places, and private owners should maintain buildings if they own them. As for payment, I think public money should cover nationally important sites, but private businesses, charities, and tourism revenue can also contribute, especially when these buildings bring economic benefits to an area.
