Traditional and modern agriculture differ mainly in scale, technology, and efficiency. Traditional farming usually depends on manual labour, local knowledge, simple tools, and natural weather patterns, so it can be more sustainable in some ways but also less predictable. Modern agriculture, on the other hand, uses machinery, irrigation systems, improved seeds, fertilizers, data, and sometimes automation. This allows farmers to produce much more food with fewer workers, although it can also create problems such as high costs, soil degradation, or dependence on chemicals. During the pandemic, many farmers’ incomes were affected quite badly, especially those who supplied restaurants, hotels, or export markets. Because transport was restricted and demand changed suddenly, some farmers could not sell their products at a fair price, and in some cases food was wasted. However, farmers who had access to online selling, local delivery, or stable supermarket contracts were in a better position. I have a lot of respect for farmers because their job is physically demanding and economically risky, but it is absolutely essential. They have to deal with weather, pests, market prices, and rising production costs, often with very little control over the final price of their products. I think farming should be seen as a skilled profession, not just manual work, especially now that many farmers need to understand technology, business, and environmental management.
