Advertising can have a pretty strong impact on children because they are often less able to separate entertainment from persuasion. A colourful advert for a toy, snack, or game can create an immediate desire, and children may start believing that having that product will make them happier or more popular. In that sense, advertising can shape their tastes and even their sense of what is normal or desirable. For parents, the effect is a bit different. They are usually more aware that adverts are trying to sell something, but they still come under pressure indirectly through their children. For example, a child might keep asking for a branded cereal or the latest toy after seeing it online or on TV, and parents may buy it simply to avoid conflict or because they do not want their child to feel left out. That said, I do not think advertising is always harmful. Some adverts can introduce families to useful products, educational resources, or healthier choices. The real issue is whether advertising is honest and age-appropriate. If companies target children too aggressively, it can encourage materialism and put unnecessary financial and emotional pressure on families.
