Shopping malls are popular in Vietnam because they offer much more than just shopping. In big cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, people go there to escape the heat, eat out, watch films, take photos, and spend time with friends or family. Malls are also seen as clean, safe, and convenient, especially because everything is under one roof. For younger people, they are almost a lifestyle space, not just a place to buy things. Small shops still have their own strengths. They are often closer to people’s homes, the service can feel more personal, and sometimes you can bargain or get advice from the owner. However, the disadvantages are limited product choices, less consistent quality, and sometimes unclear prices. Some people avoid small shops because they feel pressured by the seller, or they worry that returns and refunds will be difficult. Online shopping and in-store shopping are quite different. Online shopping is convenient, fast, and often cheaper because customers can compare prices easily. It is especially useful for busy people. But the downside is that you cannot touch or try the product, delivery can be delayed, and there is always a risk that the item looks better in the photos than in real life. In-store shopping gives people more confidence because they can check the quality immediately, but it takes more time and effort. I think consumption can drive economic growth, because when people spend money, businesses earn more, hire more workers, and pay more taxes. This creates a cycle of demand and employment. Having said that, growth based only on consumption can be risky if people buy things they do not need or rely too much on debt. So consumption is important, but it should go together with saving, investment, and sustainable production.
