Yes, in general, I think people should apologize when they have clearly done something wrong, because an apology is a basic way of taking responsibility. It doesn’t mean you have to humiliate yourself or accept all the blame, but it shows that you understand your actions have affected someone else. For example, if you are late, break a promise, or speak too harshly, saying sorry can prevent a small problem from becoming a long-term conflict. In my country, people do say “sorry”, but not always directly. In some situations, they may show regret through actions, like buying someone a meal, helping them later, or speaking more gently, rather than using the exact word “sorry”. People usually apologize when they inconvenience others, make a mistake at work, hurt a friend’s feelings, or cause a misunderstanding in the family. Some people refuse to apologize because they see it as losing face. They may think that saying sorry makes them look weak, especially if they are older, more senior, or in a position of authority. Others are simply too proud or afraid that an apology will make them fully responsible for the problem. But I think a sincere apology often does the opposite: it makes a person seem more mature, reasonable, and trustworthy.
