I’d like to talk about my cousin Minh, who is probably the most musical person in my family. He plays the guitar, mainly acoustic guitar, and he also has a really good ear for singing harmonies. At family gatherings, he is usually the person everyone asks to play a song, because he can create a relaxed atmosphere almost immediately. He started learning guitar when he was in secondary school. At first, he taught himself by watching online tutorials and copying the chords of his favourite songs. Later, he took some proper lessons, which helped him improve his fingerpicking and timing. What impressed me most is that he didn’t just memorise songs; he tried to understand how the chords worked, so after a while he could work out songs by ear. I think he is genuinely musically talented because he can make even a simple song sound emotional. He has a natural sense of rhythm, and he knows when to play softly or build up the energy. Also, he can listen to a song once or twice and then reproduce the main melody quite accurately. To me, that shows not only practice but also real musical instinct.
