One interesting old person I have met is my former neighbor, Mr. Harris, who was in his late seventies when I first got to know him. I met him quite casually because we lived in the same apartment building, and one day I helped him carry some groceries upstairs when the elevator was out of order. After that, we started chatting whenever we bumped into each other in the hallway. What made him interesting was that he had lived a very eventful life. He used to be a sailor, so he had travelled to dozens of countries and had countless stories about different cultures, storms at sea, and the people he had met along the way. He was also incredibly sharp and humorous. Even though he was elderly, he had a curious mind and was always reading about technology, history, or politics. I learned from him that staying young is partly about attitude. He once told me that people become old when they stop being interested in the world, and that really stayed with me. I found him particularly memorable because he didn’t just tell stories; he made me see life from a wider perspective. Talking to him felt like opening a living history book, but one with warmth, wit, and a lot of wisdom.
