A song I clearly remember from my childhood is “You Are My Sunshine.” I’m not completely sure when I first heard it, but I think I was around five or six years old. My mother used to sing it to me in the evenings, especially when I was getting ready for bed, so I associate it with a very calm and safe time in my life. I used to hear it mostly at home, in my bedroom or sometimes in the kitchen while my mother was doing housework. It wasn’t played on a fancy sound system or anything like that; it was usually just her voice. Later, I also heard the same song in cartoons and children’s programmes, which made it feel even more familiar. I still remember this song because it has a simple melody, but it carries a lot of emotion for me. Whenever I hear it now, it brings back vivid memories of my childhood home, my mother’s voice, and the feeling of being cared for. I suppose it has stayed with me because it is connected not just to a tune, but to a whole period of my life.
