One historical building I’ve been to is the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi, Vietnam. I visited it about two years ago during a short trip to the capital with my family. It’s located quite close to the city centre, so it was easy to get there, but once I walked inside, it felt much quieter and more spacious than the busy streets outside. The building complex has a very ancient and dignified appearance. The most impressive part for me was the old stone gate and the yellow colonial-style building behind it. There are also wide courtyards, brick paths, archaeological remains, and display rooms with old objects such as ceramics, coins, and documents. It doesn’t look overly decorative, but it has a calm and serious atmosphere, which makes you feel that many important events must have happened there. This place is historically important because it was the political centre of Vietnam for many centuries, especially during the Ly, Tran, and Le dynasties. Kings and officials used to work there, and major decisions about the country were made in that area. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it is not only meaningful to Vietnamese people but also recognised internationally. Visiting it helped me understand that history is not just something in textbooks; it can be felt through real places that have survived for generations.
