One risk that really stands out was when I decided to leave my stable part-time job at a language centre and apply for a marketing internship instead. This happened about two years ago, when I was in my second year at university. At the time, the language centre job was comfortable and predictable, and I was earning a small but steady income. However, I felt that it wasn’t connected to the career I wanted in the long run. The risk was that the internship was not guaranteed at all. I had to quit my job first because the interview and training schedule clashed with my teaching hours. If I hadn’t got the internship, I would have lost my income and probably felt quite embarrassed, especially because some of my friends thought I was being unrealistic. I was also worried that I might not be good enough, since I didn’t have much practical experience in marketing. Fortunately, the result was much better than I expected. I got accepted, and during the internship I learned how to write social media content, analyse customer data, and work with a real team. After three months, the company offered me a longer position. I felt incredibly relieved and proud because the decision had pushed me out of my comfort zone. Looking back, it was risky, but it helped me grow both professionally and personally.
