One time I was seriously late for an important event was about two years ago, when I was supposed to attend my cousin’s wedding ceremony. It was held on a Saturday morning at a hotel in the city centre, and because I was quite close to that cousin, my family expected me to be there early to help greet guests and take some photos before the ceremony started. Unfortunately, I completely underestimated the traffic. I left home at what I thought was a reasonable time, but there had been an accident on the main road, so the taxi barely moved for almost forty minutes. To make matters worse, my phone battery was almost dead, so I couldn’t keep updating my family properly. By the time I arrived, the ceremony had already begun, and I had to slip into the room quietly, which was honestly quite embarrassing. It was significant because it wasn’t just a casual gathering that I could join at any point. A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and I missed the moment when my cousin walked down the aisle. I also felt I had let my family down because they had counted on me to help with small tasks before the event. Since then, I’ve become much more careful with important appointments. If something really matters, I try to arrive at least thirty minutes early, just in case something unexpected happens.
