One goal I set for myself was to improve my English speaking score from around band 6 to band 7.5 within six months. At that time, I could communicate quite comfortably, but my answers were often too general, and I sometimes paused for too long when I couldn’t find the right word. I knew it wouldn’t happen overnight, so I made a realistic plan and tried to follow it as consistently as possible. Every morning, I recorded myself answering one IELTS Speaking question for about two minutes. Then I listened back and wrote down the parts where I sounded unnatural or repetitive. I also built a small vocabulary notebook, but instead of memorising random difficult words, I focused on phrases I could actually use in daily topics, like work, study, technology, or travel. Some days I felt tired and wanted to skip practice, especially when I didn’t notice much progress, but I reminded myself that small improvements would add up over time. After a few months, I became much more confident. My fluency improved, and I learned how to extend my answers with examples and personal feelings instead of just giving short responses. In the end, I reached my target score, which made me feel extremely proud because I had earned it through discipline rather than luck. That experience taught me that a big goal becomes much more manageable when you break it down into small daily habits.
