One time that comes to mind was at a fairly busy restaurant in my city last year. I was having dinner with a friend, and at the table next to us there were two young children, probably around six or seven years old, running between the tables and shouting at each other. At first, I thought they were just excited, but after a while it became quite disruptive because the waiters were carrying hot food and drinks, and the children nearly bumped into them several times. What surprised me most was that their parents didn’t really step in. They were chatting and looking at their phones, almost as if they had tuned out the noise completely. Some other customers looked uncomfortable, but nobody wanted to say anything directly. Eventually, one of the staff members politely asked the parents to keep the children at the table because it was unsafe. I felt a bit annoyed, to be honest, but I also felt that the children weren’t entirely to blame. At that age, they need boundaries, especially in public places. I think the parents should have handled the situation earlier, either by taking the children outside for a short break or giving them something quiet to do. It reminded me that good behaviour in public is something children learn gradually, not something that happens automatically.
