One important thing I learned outside school was how to manage my personal finances. I didn’t learn it from a teacher or a textbook, but from real life, mainly after I started earning a bit of money from part-time work and realized I had no clear idea where it was going. At first, I used to spend quite carelessly on food, clothes, and small online purchases, and by the end of the month I often felt confused because I had almost nothing left. What really changed my mindset was watching a few finance videos online and talking to an older cousin who is very disciplined with money. He showed me a simple method: track every expense, separate needs from wants, and save a fixed amount as soon as I receive money. It sounded basic, but when I actually applied it, I became much more aware of my habits. I started using a budgeting app, setting small saving goals, and thinking twice before buying things I didn’t really need. This lesson has been important because it gave me a sense of control and independence. I’m still not perfect, of course, but I’m much less impulsive than before. More importantly, I learned that financial responsibility is not about being rich; it’s about making thoughtful decisions and planning ahead. I think this is a life skill everyone should learn early, because it affects many other areas of life, from reducing stress to preparing for future opportunities.
