One occasion when I lost my way was during a short trip to Kyoto in Japan a couple of years ago. I was trying to find a small traditional tea house in the old part of the city, and I decided to walk there instead of taking a taxi because the streets looked very peaceful and scenic. At first, I followed the map on my phone, but after a while the signal became weak and the streets all started to look quite similar. I turned into a narrow lane, then another one, and suddenly I realised I had no idea where I was. To make things worse, most of the signs were in Japanese, so I couldn't really work out whether I was getting closer or farther away. I felt a bit anxious at first, mainly because I had a booking and I didn't want to be late. But after a few minutes, I tried to stay calm and treat it as part of the experience. I stopped outside a small shop and politely asked the owner for help, showing her the address on my phone. She was extremely kind. She pointed me in the right direction and even drew a simple route on a paper bag. Thanks to her directions, I found the tea house about ten minutes later. In the end, I arrived a little late, but the experience actually made the day more memorable because I got to see some quiet backstreets I would never have discovered otherwise.
