One great dinner I really enjoyed was a homemade hotpot meal I had with my parents and two close cousins last winter. We prepared a big pot of spicy broth in the middle of the table, with thin slices of beef, mushrooms, tofu, noodles, and lots of fresh vegetables. It was not a fancy restaurant meal, but everything was fresh, warm, and comforting. I had the dinner with my immediate family and my cousins, who had just come back from university for the holidays. During the meal, we talked about all sorts of things, from my cousins’ campus life to our childhood memories. At one point, we started laughing about a trip we took years ago when we got completely lost, so the atmosphere became really lively and relaxed. I enjoyed it so much because it felt intimate and unhurried. Everyone was sitting around the same pot, cooking food together and sharing whatever was ready, so it created a real sense of connection. Also, because we are all quite busy nowadays, having a whole evening to talk, laugh, and enjoy good food together felt genuinely special.
