One time I broke something quite valuable was about two years ago, when I accidentally cracked my older sister’s tablet. It happened at home, in the living room, on a Sunday afternoon. She had left it on the coffee table while she went to make some tea, and I picked it up to check a message because my phone had run out of battery. It was not brand new, but she used it every day for reading documents and watching lectures, so it was definitely important to her. The way I broke it was really careless. I was sitting on the sofa with the tablet in one hand and a glass of water in the other. When I tried to put the glass down, my elbow hit the edge of the table, and the tablet slipped out of my hand. It landed face down on the tiled floor, and when I turned it over, there was a long crack across the screen. My heart sank immediately because I knew it was completely my fault. After that, I did not try to hide it or make excuses. I told my sister straight away, apologised properly, and offered to pay for the repair. At first, she was obviously annoyed, but she appreciated that I admitted it honestly. The next day, I took it to a repair shop, got the screen replaced, and paid for it from my savings. Since then, I have become much more careful with other people’s belongings, especially electronic devices. It was an embarrassing mistake, but it taught me to slow down and not be so casual with things that do not belong to me.
